It's my first time seeing this time in front of me as well.

I took these photos when I was experimenting on the lightning sparks. Corona are the one appear in purple glow. Only can be seen at night time. Don't mess it up with the lightning sparks.

This thing consist of 2 magnetic plate with around 10-20s copper wired steel. Can generate around 10++V if the wind is very strong.
