Apples had always been one of the impression given to everyone like Louis Vuitton and Nike does to their consumer.
Steve Job was very smart with his marketing plan. We all know that Apple was over-rated expensive products and was one of the infamous product due to its high price. But, Steve Job never gave up trying to reach every little person live on this earth.
There are several reasons to that.
1. They release awesome products that break new ground.
Compare to all the Android Tablets that were just released at CES.
2. They keep their mouths shut, for the most part, about new products,
until Steve Jobs is on stage. They kept secret. They know what to do. They were all trained to keep secrecy of the company. This creates mystery. Try that against any other tech company who leaks and leaks and leaks until the day that they release there's nothing left to get excited about.
3. Their presentations are 1000x better than most.
Steve Jobs had far-most the best presentation for his product and tech in CES.
4. They limit the numbers of press that can attend.
That means there's demand for the work of those who do get in. Compare to Steve Ballmer's CES keynote, for instance, that had 8,000 in attendance. With Apple those 8,000 people are kept outside where they need to read the blogs of those who are inside to find out what's going on. That gets press to be hungry for more Apple stuff. Even the big tech blogs only get to bring two or three people in, that means they can't do EVERYTHING they would to make sure they completely cover an event and makes sure there's some air supply for others.
5. Apple's stuff usually is more visual, which makes for better photos and videos. Apple's stuff is almost always visually stunning.
6. The Apple brand itself. It stands for the best.
It's like talking to the CEO of Audi. Do I want to talk to some failed American car company who poopoos tech innovation? Nope. Do I want to talk to the company that makes the R8? Hell yes! Apple makes the R8 of the tech industry.
7. Apple's stock price keeps going up.
This tells news editors that the Apple brand is still vibrant, relevant, and one they need to pay attention to.
8. Developer support.
The press listens to bleeding edge developers very carefully. Is Flipboard only on iPad? Is Tapulous only on iPhone? How about Angry Birds, et al? The developers cause press coverage to be focused on Apple. Look at RIM, their PlayBook is actually pretty nice. But developers aren't supporting it yet. Same with Microsoft Windows Phone 7. They will languish behind platforms that the bleeding edge developers DO support.
9. Advertising. Apple does it. A lot. Think the press doesn't pay attention to the ones who support media with dollars?
10. Apple makes sure its brand gets seen next to other great brands. Oprah was paid to hand out Apple iPads to her Christmas audience in December. I see Apple stuff on nearly every musician's stage. Lots of TV shows have Apple stuff in them, too. That helps build the brand that forces the press to cover Apple.
11. Its customers are passionate. Their customer could wait a reluctantly long hours just to get their product. Why? Because they are worth the wait. What other products cause that to happen? Not many. That gets the press excited too (see the photo above of me buying one of the first iPhones). Do you see Nokia or Sony Ericsson ever did that? or Acer?
